Stuck in a hair rut? It could be time to go back to the drawing board. From ombre and balayage to tapestry weaves and corn rows, there are plenty of styling options out there.

But what is the best match for you? We caught up with celebrity hairdresser Karine Jackson to gather some pro inspiration

A revamped up do

"The key to a successful up do is simplicity," says Karine, who has worked her magic on countless stars.

"Put your hair into a French plait but use a comb to get a little lift in the front.

"Use Organic Colour Systems Spray Gel for root lift at the top and then spray at the sides and slick back with your hands.

"Don't be put off by gel, it doesn't give a crispy finish, it just gives a soft natural finish that holds in place and won't frizz."

Pony power

"Ponytails are a great staple style that will last into the early hours of the morning," suggests Karine.

She suggests experimenting with backcombing, plaiting, looping and twisting. "Put a hairpiece over the top of your ponytail and backcomb. Shape it into a fan and pin at the nape of the neck," she says. "You could then accessorise this look with a vintage clip for a sophisticated style.

"Or form a really high ponytail on the top of your head. Twist and wrap around to form a donut shape and pin the ends in place around the circle," she adds.

Twisted locks

"One of my favourites at the moment is a twist - it's perfect for any hair length," says Karine. "Part your hair in the centre, take one centimetre sections of hair and twist them towards the back of your head, repeating on other side and then twist the two sections together at the back," she explains.

Va-va-voom volume

"A lot of clients think this look is really hard to achieve but it couldn't be simpler," reassures Karine.

"Using heated rollers, place them over your head, randomly spray with hairspray and let them cool.

"When cool, take the rollers out tip your head upside down and really stimulate the hair at the roots with your fingers and spray generously with hairspray.

"Flip your hair back up and gently brush for a soft bouncy curl," she adds.
